Gone are the days when you had to put “do not touch” signs on whiteboards to preserve what is written, or even resort to taking photos of its contents just to keep a record. Nowadays, there are Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) that allow you to write, share, and save your notes. You can easily annotate, and your notes will be mirrored on connected devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones. It can also work the other way around, where you write or draw on connected devices and then have it mirrored on the IWB in real time.
An Interactive Whiteboard allows for effective collaboration between the entire team. It opens many possibilities for presenting and conveying information to an audience. But with so many types available in the market today, it might be daunting to choose the right one for your organization. Here are some of the things you need to consider when choosing the right IWB model.
There are whiteboards that have built-in interactivity, while some need gadgets that stick to the whiteboard to make it interactive. There are also giant touchscreen monitors that have built-in interactivity without the need for a projector. Whatever type of IWB model you choose, be sure that it will fit right into your requirements.
The size of the IWB will depend on the amount of space that you have. For large areas, an extremely large display is needed, and a projector-based system would be the best choice. You also need to factor in the ambient light of the space because this will affect the resolution of the display.
Some IWBs are packed with features such as wireless connectivity, direct printing from board, multi-touch, multi-user, handwriting recognition, video conferencing, 4K resolution, etc. What are your requirements? Make sure that you are not paying more for features that you will never use.
Some interactive displays are more expensive than their projector-based counterparts. This is because the cost usually depends on the features that is included in the package. But don’t focus on the upfront cost of acquiring an IWB that has the features needed by your organization. The upfront cost can be negligible compared to the return on investment that your organization will reap if you purchase the right IWB.
Some IWBs offer a wide range of functions and features in their software suite, but it may also cost more and many of these features might not be of any use to your organization. You also need to consider if the bundled software is easy to use or if there’s a steep learning curve before you can maximize its use.
Stationary, position-adjustable, or portable IWB? Depending on your requirements, you may want a stationary IWP that you can mount on the wall. This is best for large spaces such as auditoriums or big classrooms. Portables, which can be placed on a rolling stand, are best for smaller areas and if you’re on a tight budget because you can share and move it from room to room without difficulty.
7. Installation and Maintenance
Is it easy to install? Or will it need a technician to get it up and running? Will it need special maintenance? These are also important questions to ask when choosing the right IWB for your organization.
